A Foundation of Faith: Supporting Shelter KC’s Mission
This year we’re shining a service spotlight on nonprofits and organizations that help uplift our community. At Covenant Packaging, our first goal is to honor the Lord God. We believe this includes helping those in the community we hold so dear. Whether it’s donating boxes, contributing funds, or addressing other specific needs, we take pride in partnering with nonprofits that make a positive impact in our community—nonprofits including Shelter KC.
Sharing a Focus on Christ
Shelter KC offers relief and recovery services for the homeless in Kansas City. Working in the community since 1950, the rescue mission provides a variety of services to help men and women who are struggling, including:
- Safe shelter
- Nutritious meals
- A recovery program
- Job and life skills training
- And more
As a Christ-centered organization, the rescue mission not only provides services but hope for the future. We share Shelter KC’s belief that real hope and lasting change are found in Jesus Christ. Their focus on faith, daily communion with God, and Christ-centered programs aligns closely with our desire to serve the Lord and live out His will through our work.
Sheltering the Homeless from the Cold
For those in need, hope often starts with a safe place at Shelter KC to lay their head at night.
This January, Kansas City saw historic snowfall and record lows in temperature. Shelter KC provided a haven for homeless men in our community during these brutally cold days.
The nonprofit’s emergency services offer a lifeline for individuals seeking a warm bed, safe shelter, and fortifying meal. In 2024, Shelter KC served more than 61,000 meals and recorded providing more than 30,000 beds for shelter. Their work can make a life-or-death difference for those seeking sanctuary, and it’s often just the start of a person’s journey to transformation.
Transforming Lives Through Faith and Service
In addition to emergency services, Shelter KC offers:
- Respite care
- Mental health services
- Case management
- Recovery programs
- Women’s Center programming
- Job training and internships
Last year, it completed Phase One of it’s Transformations Campaign, expanding services and renovating its current space to help individuals experiencing homelessness who face diverse challenges. Many of the services they now provide were made possible through the campaign, including respite care for individuals in need of a place to recover from medical setbacks and a mental health center for those working to overcome trauma and manage mental illness.
In Phase Two, Shelter KC will focus on expansion, as its current space has grown tight for its many services. For more information on Shelter KC’s Transformations Campaign and its goals for Phase Two, check out its website.
The work Shelter KC does with these transformative services makes a life-changing difference in people’s lives. They help break past destructive cycles and provide a foundation for a better future.
Uplifting the Community, Honoring God
At Covenant Packaging, we’re honored to stand alongside organizations that transform lives through faith, compassion, and service, including Shelter KC. Their Christ-centered mission to bring hope and healing to those in need reflects the values we hold dear as a company dedicated to honoring God and uplifting our community, like the scripture passage:
“What good is it for a man to gain the whole world and yet lose his very soul.” -Luke 9:25
Just like we work every day to serve our customers with the highest level of service possible in the corrugated industry, we also to serve God by helping those less fortunate. If you’re inspired by the work Shelter KC is doing, we encourage you to learn more about its mission, impact, and how you can support its efforts to provide shelter, meals, and life- changing programs for those in need. You can visit the website for even more ways to get involved.
Together, with organizations like Shelter KC, we’re reminded that making a difference is about more than what we do—it’s about who we serve and the lives we touch along the way. We’re proud to do our part and grateful to be a company where faith and service are at the heart of our work.
